Flooding Concerns In Wisconsin

3 Things To Know:

  • Fog developing tonight, especially heavy in the Wisconsin River Valley.
  • Warm temperatures with highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s expected Tuesday.
  • Shower and thunderstorm chances increase Wednesday night into Thursday.

As we move into the night, expect conditions to cool with the potential for patchy fog across parts of Southeast Wisconsin. The areas most affected will be west of Madison, particularly the Wisconsin River Valley where dense fog is likely.

Tonight: Fog Development

Following a warm day, temperatures will dip to the mid 50s to around 60 degrees overnight. As clear skies prevail and winds diminish, fog is anticipated to form across areas from Madison to Janesville. According to the National Weather Service,

“Dense fog is likely in the Wisconsin River Valley and possible for the Rock River Valley.”

Therefore, if you’re traveling tonight, be cautious of reduced visibility.

Tuesday: Warm and Dry

Looking ahead to Tuesday, expect warm conditions with highs reaching the upper 70s along the lakeshore and into the mid-80s further inland around Wisconsin Dells. A lake breeze is likely by mid-morning, which may bring some relief from the heat.

Midweek: Increasing Storm Chances

Severe Storm Changes

As we approach Wednesday night, a cold front will move into the area, increasing the chances for showers and thunderstorms. This is expected to linger into Thursday evening, with rain probabilities ranging from 50 to 70%. While there is enough instability to support storm development, current indications suggest limited severe weather potential due to low deep layer shear.

Weekend Outlook

After the front passes, drier conditions are expected to dominate the weekend with temperatures stabilizing in the high 70s to low 80s, warming up again as we head into early next week.
