MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin hunters can now start planning for the upcoming season after the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released its Fall 2026-Spring 2027 Hunting Regulations along with the annual Fall Hunting and Trapping Forecasts.
The two resources provide hunters with season information, regulations and outlooks for many of Wisconsin’s most popular game species heading into the fall hunting season.
One of the biggest changes this year is the launch of an online version of the hunting regulations. The digital guide mirrors the traditional printed booklet and includes a drop-down navigation feature designed to help hunters quickly find the information they need. Hunters who prefer a printed copy will still be able to pick one up at Wisconsin DNR Service Centers in the coming weeks.
What the Fall Forecasts Include
The DNR’s annual forecast series offers a preseason outlook for hunters and trappers across Wisconsin. Forecasts cover a variety of game species and also provide information on:
- Public land hunting opportunities
- Game registration requirements
- Season dates
- Hunting and trapping expectations based on current conditions
The agency says the forecasts are developed using multiple sources of information, including federal and local wildlife surveys, DNR research, weather patterns and observations from field staff and advisory committees. While they are not guarantees of hunting success, they are intended to provide hunters with the best available preseason outlook.
