3 Things To Know:
- Scattered thunderstorms expected this afternoon, with a possibility of strong storms in eastern Wisconsin.
- Windy weather will continue into Wednesday, leading to hazardous conditions for boaters.
- Elevated fire weather conditions are likely due to low humidity and strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday.
The weather pattern in Northeast Wisconsin is shaping up to be quite active, as we expect scattered thunderstorms later this week and windy conditions leading to fire risk.
“A few strong storms are possible in eastern Wisconsin, capable of producing small hail and wind gusts in excess of 40 mph.”
While not every location will experience storms, be aware that an isolated storm could become severe. Make sure to pay attention to local updates as the day progresses.
Strong Wind Ahead
In addition to the storms, we expect breezy conditions to stick around through Wednesday. If you’re out on Lake Michigan or Green Bay, be cautious; winds could produce wave heights of 6 to 10 feet initially, which will lead to hazardous boating conditions. South winds will shift and remain gusty, making it a challenge for small craft.
Fire Weather Concerns
On Wednesday and Thursday, the air will become much drier, with relative humidity dropping to around 20-35%. This low humidity combined with strong Northwest winds gusting between 30 and 35 mph will elevate fire weather concerns. Although the humidity readings are marginal, the strength of the winds necessitates caution. Some areas could dip into the mid-30s overnight Wednesday, possibly leading to patchy frost as cooler air settles in.
Looking Ahead
For the remainder of the week, additional rain chances arise late Thursday night through Friday, and another system is on the horizon for late Saturday into Monday. This later system promises drier and potentially heavier rain and thunderstorms, so stay tuned for updates as we approach the weekend.
