Severe storms wisconsin Wednesday

3 Things To Know:

  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms, with possible hail and gusty winds, will move eastward this afternoon.
  • Widespread rain is expected Wednesday, especially in southern Wisconsin, with a slight chance for severe storms.
  • Cooler and drier conditions will follow at the end of the week, but another round of precipitation may arrive by Sunday.

Tuesday Night Weather

As we enter the late evening, scattered showers and thunderstorms are being reported. These storms are accompanied by a chance of hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts reaching 45 mph. The storm activity is expected to gradually taper off from west to east as we approach the evening hours.

What’s Coming Next

Stormy weather Wednesday

Looking ahead to Wednesday, a robust storm system will bring widespread showers and possibly thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night. Thereโ€™s about an 80 to 90 percent chance of rain, particularly impacting southern Wisconsin near the Illinois state line, where locally heavy rainfall is likely. While we are keeping an eye on the potential for severe storms, confidence remains higher that the most severe weather will stay just south of our area.

Additionally, if conditions allow for instability to develop ahead of the low pressure system moving in from the west, we could see a few stronger storms with the potential for damaging winds and hail in the afternoon.

After the Rain

Dry weather by later Thursday

Once the low pressure moves out by early Thursday, there will likely be a brief period of cooler and drier weather. High pressure is predicted to move in, bringing calmer conditions as we head into the weekend. However, by Sunday, another low pressure system may bring increased precipitation chances, particularly over the southwestern parts of the state.

As always, stay tuned for the latest updates as conditions can change rapidly. Remember this is based on the latest information from the National Weather Service.
