3 Things To Know:

  • Patchy dense fog is expected late tonight, reducing visibility to less than half a mile in some areas.
  • Rain showers and thunderstorms are likely Tuesday night into Wednesday night, with widespread soaking rain expected.
  • Drier and cooler weather will return Thursday night through Saturday, potentially bringing frost to the Northwoods.

Patchy Dense Fog Expected Tonight

As high pressure slowly shifts eastward, northeast Wisconsin will see light winds and increased humidity tonight. This combination is likely to lead to the development of patchy dense fog after 3 AM. Visibility may drop below 1/2 mile in certain areas until the fog dissipates by around 10 AM.

According to the National Weather Service, “localized dense fog dropping visibility below 1 mile” is expected in some regions, particularly in the north-central and eastern parts of the state. A Dense Fog Advisory could be issued if the forecast holds.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Tuesday Night Through Early Thursday

Looking ahead, a cold front will approach Wisconsin Tuesday night, bringing a likelihood of significant rain showers and thunderstorms. Confidence is high for widespread rainfall, with totals possibly exceeding 2 inches in some areas.

Forecasters indicate a 70 to 90% chance of rain during this period, driven by an influx of tropical moisture from the eastern Pacific. Despite the moisture and front passage, severe weather risks remain low, with thunder chances estimated between 10 and 20%.

Drier and Cooler Conditions Late Week

Following the frontal passage, much cooler and drier air will settle over the region by Thursday night. This could lead to conditions favorable for frost, particularly in northern areas such as Land O’ Lakes and Rhinelander.

As we transition into the weekend, expect mild temperatures to return, along with a slight chance of light rain Saturday night. For now, prepare for tonight’s fog and keep an eye on the weather for the heavy rain forecasted.
