The days following the devastating storms that struck the Lake Geneva area have been filled with heartbreak, recovery and an incredible show of community spirit.

In a public statement, Lake Geneva Police Chief Ed Gritzner thanked the many first responders, public agencies, businesses and residents who stepped up in the wake of the tragedy, saying the support has been both humbling and inspiring.

The storms claimed lives, caused widespread damage and left many families and neighborhoods facing difficult days ahead. But according to Gritzner, they also revealed the very best of the Lake Geneva community.

“I have witnessed an outpouring of compassion, generosity and selflessness that serves as a powerful reminder of what makes Lake Geneva such a special community,” Gritzner said.

The chief recognized neighboring law enforcement agencies, fire and EMS departments, dispatchers, utility crews, public works employees and numerous organizations that responded without hesitation during the emergency.

He also thanked local businesses and residents who donated meals, snacks, beverages and supplies to emergency crews, along with the many volunteers who checked on neighbors, offered encouragement and supported families affected by the storms.

“Every gesture, no matter how large or small, made a meaningful difference,” Gritzner said.

As recovery efforts continue across the area, Gritzner said the response from the community has demonstrated that no one has to face hardship alone.

“While there is still healing ahead, I hope everyone knows how grateful we are for the outpouring of support shown over these past several days,” he said. “It has been humbling to witness and a reminder that no one faces hardship alone when a community stands together.”

The City of Lake Geneva continues its recovery efforts following last week’s severe weather, while residents, volunteers and emergency crews work together to help those impacted.
