A surface high pressure system will keep things dry through Friday, offering a pleasant day to enjoy the outdoors. However, smoke returns Friday and storms are expected off and on from Friday night through Monday night.

Smoke Alert
On Friday afternoon, we can expect elevated smoke to move into the area, primarily affecting regions along and north of Interstate 90. “Any surface smoke will likely remain well west of the area,” which means that air quality should remain relatively good for most communities in the Driftless Area.
Weekend Storm Watch
As we transition into the weekend, clouds and chances of showers and storms will increase. A Canadian cold front is expected to push through, bringing unsettled weather starting Friday night into Saturday. The storm system may develop strong storms, particularly on Saturday night and again on Sunday night. The exact track of these storms remains uncertain, but there is an increased potential for damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes.
Low temperatures for Saturday night are projected to be in the mid-60s to lower 70s, while daytime highs on Sunday are expected to range from the mid-80s to mid-90s. With heat indices potentially reaching 100 to 105 degrees, a Heat Advisory may be issued for parts of the region, particularly west of the Mississippi River.

As we head into Monday night, severe weather chances depend heavily on the timing and movement of another frontal system. If it can make its way through during the day, we might see higher instability and therefore an increased chance of storms.
