Warm Fall

3 Things To Know:

  • Unseasonably warm temperatures, 15-20 degrees above normal, persist through the weekend.
  • Light rain may occur for northern areas late Saturday into Sunday, though chances remain low.
  • Expect cooler conditions as we head into next week, with a higher chance of rain by Monday and Tuesday.

Weather Overview Through Saturday

This weekend, Western Wisconsin will continue to see abnormally warm temperatures, with highs reaching 15 to 20 degrees above normal. As noted in the latest Area Forecast Discussion,

“Given these warm temperatures aloft, continue to expect abnormal warmth as we head into the weekend.”

The main driver for this warmth is upper-level ridging, allowing for southerly flow and warm air advection.

Some light showers may develop on Friday, particularly in the northern counties, as surface low pressure moves into the region. However, the vast majority of the area is expected to remain dry, with only a 10% chance of any measurable rain. Light sprinkles are possible, but amounts will be minimal.

Weather Update for Sunday to Wednesday

As we transition into Sunday, the weather pattern will shift. A quasi-stationary front will begin to sag southward across the region. While thereโ€™s a slight chance of light rain, particularly north of I-90, the overall confidence remains low with only 10 to 20% probabilities mentioned.

Looking into next week, there is a higher potential for precipitation on Monday and Tuesday as a low pressure system gradually moves northward from the Desert Southwest. Current forecasts indicate a 30 to 40% chance of rain; however, models are still uncertain about the exact trajectory of this weather system. Overall, a trend towards more seasonable temperatures is expected as cooler air begins to filter in.
