  • Patchy dense fog expected late tonight, especially in far northeastern Wisconsin
  • Temperatures will be mild through Saturday, reaching the upper 60s to low 70s
  • Expect increased chances of light rain starting Saturday night

The latest surface analysis shows high pressure settling over the eastern Great Lakes and pushing into eastern Canada. Meanwhile, a weak cold front is moving across northeastern Minnesota. As this front stretches over the region tonight, we can expect patchy dense fog to develop late tonight into early Thursday morning.

Fog is likely to drop visibility below half a mile in some areas. However, conditions should improve by 9 to 10 AM Thursday morning as the sun begins to warm the atmosphere and mix out the fog. Keep in mind, similar fog conditions may return early Friday morning.

Mild Weather Ahead

Following the fog, we will enjoy dry and mild weather through Saturday afternoon. Expect inland high temperatures to reach the mid-60s to low 70s, while coastal areas near Lake Michigan will see slightly cooler temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence is high in this forecast, as models show tight temperature ranges.

As we head into Saturday night, rain chances will start to increase with a forecasted 20 to 40 percent probability of light rain showers lasting through Monday. This is due to a cold front associated with a shortwave trough moving into the region. Rainfall totals are expected to remain light, but be prepared for wet conditions as we move into next week.

Lastly, bracing for a temperature dropโ€”by early next week, expect highs to only reach the upper 40s to low 50s.

โ€œConditions will remain favorable for early morning ground fog on Friday as well.โ€
