3 Things To Know:
- Thunderstorms are likely tonight, with a Marginal risk for severe storms.
- Expect hot and humid weather to settle in by mid-next week.
- Potential for flooding is possible as widespread showers approach on Monday.
Thunderstorm Chances Friday Night
Tonight, Southeast Wisconsin can anticipate rising humidity levels and increased chances for thunderstorms. As a result of a weather system moving into the area, a Marginal Risk for severe storms has been established. Main threats include hail, gusty winds, and lightning.
“Heavy rainfall has fallen today over southwestern Wisconsin where a Flood Advisory is in effect for Lafayette County,” according to the latest Area Forecast Discussion from the National Weather Service. Some areas around Cuba City experienced road flooding due to 3-5 inches of rain.
Expect scattered thunderstorms this evening that may continue into the overnight hours. Although the most intense storms are expected in the northern half of the region, there is a possibility for storms to drift into central and southern areas as well. The likelihood of storms dwindles by sunrise tomorrow as high pressure starts to establish itself in the region.
Rain and Humidity Expected Monday
Looking ahead to Monday, a considerable amount of moisture will return, with surface dew points nearing 75ยฐF. This will bring widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms, starting as early as late Sunday night in some areas. Flooding could become an issue, especially if the upper trough and corresponding moisture move directly into southern Wisconsin.
Hot and Humid Conditions Ahead

As the week unfolds, Wisconsin will be under the influence of warm and humid air. High temperatures are anticipated to rise into the mid to upper 80s, with the possibility of reaching the low 90s by late next week. Coupled with high humidity, this may lead to heat index values exceeding 100ยฐF at times, particularly in the latter half of the week.
Stay aware of potential thunderstorm activity tonight and prepare for a warm week ahead.
