The City of Lake Geneva has declared a local state of emergency following severe storms that swept through the area Friday afternoon, leaving widespread damage and claiming three lives.
Mayor Todd W. Krause issued the emergency declaration at 12:18 p.m. Friday, July 3, citing extensive storm damage, power and utility outages, and blocked streets throughout the city. The declaration will remain in effect until it is officially lifted.
The emergency response also included a rescue operation on Geneva Lake after a boat overturned during the storm. First responders rescued seven people from the water, but three others were pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatalities.
City officials continue to assess storm damage and work to restore essential services. Residents are urged to avoid damaged areas, use caution while traveling and stay away from downed power lines and other hazards.
